Deep concentration of dull dark ruby (dull is good here!) Dry BlackBerry skin, Ripe black plum, black pepper, black olive, blackcurrant leaf and meaty notes. Lean body with great freshness and structure. Polished earthy tannins. Well balanced and integrated Alcohol Subtle hints of black olive, tobacco and dark chocolate on the finish. Complex, full-bodied pleasure with a great harmony and balance! Beef, lamb, game (deer , venison) & poultry goes with this wine.
This year, I actually preferred Ferraton's 2018 Cote Rotie l'Eglantine to the Montmain. While it's similarly plush and ripe, it carries a hint of green herbs and black tea that gives this bottling a bit more individuality. Blueberries and a hint of roses expand on that notion. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, it gains focus on the finish to reveal intricate details of tea and dried flowers.
